Marine Licence – Boat and Jet Ski Course

Course Description

By attending our Boat and Jet Ski Course you will receive a Transport Safety Victoria Certificate. You can then take this certificate to VicRoads where you will issued you with an official Marine License.

Once licensed, you can operate a boat or jet ski on any waters in Australia.

Anyone wanting to obtain their Marine Licence to operate a boat or jet ski on Australian waters. No prior knowledge, study or experience necessary.

Age Requirements

Students who are 16 years old and over can use their certificate to receive a General Marine Licence.

Students between the ages of 12-15 years old can use their certificate to receive a Restricted Marine Licence. This means they can only operate during daylight hours when by themselves, have a max speed of 10 knots, can’t tow skiers.

Please note: VicRoads have Eligibility Requirements such as health, eyesight and previous licence situations. Please ensure that you comply with these requirements before you attend our course.

The Boat and Jet Ski course content contains but is not limited to the following components.

  • Charts and Navigation
  • Practical Seamanship
  • Personal Watercraft
Assessment

There are two assessments at the end of the course - the Marine Boat Licence Course test and the Personal Water Craft (Jet Ski) test.

FAQs

Do I need to bring anything to the course?
You will need to bring a form of payment (cash or card accepted), and identification.

What Identification can I bring?
A valid Drivers' Licence. If you don't have a Driver' Licence you can bring another two forms of ID, such as a Birth Certificate or Medicare Card.

Do I get the licence at the course?
No. Once you have passed the tests, you will be given a Transport Safety Victoria Certificate, which you can take to VicRoads to get your Marine Licence.

What are the fees to be paid at VicRoads?
The fee for your licence is for either a 1 or 5 year period. Please visit the VicRoads website for current fees.

How long does the certificate last?
You have 12 months to take your certificate to VicRoads to receive your Marine Licence.
