Basic Confined Space Entry 1 Day
Face to Face
Provides core skills to safely assess risk and enter confined spaces under supervision. Students learn to work in accordance with an issued permit and established workplace controls. This course suits workers undertaking repeat or refresher confined space training. Accredited units in this training are:
- Regulations and legislation
- Confined space definitions and classification
- Roles and responsibilities of entrants, standby persons and supervisors
- Risk assessment and hazard identification
- Hierarchy of hazard control
- Confined space permits and permit conditions
- Isolation methods and lock out tag out
- Atmospheric hazards and exposure limits
- Gas testing equipment selection and use
- Pre entry and continuous atmospheric monitoring
- Ventilation methods and air quality control
- Personal protective equipment and respiratory protection
- Entry and exit procedures
- Use of harnesses, lifelines and retrieval systems
- Communication methods during entry
- Working safely in confined spaces
- Working in accordance with permit requirements
- Monitoring compliance with permit conditions
- Suspension and cancellation of permits
- Emergency procedures and rescue planning
- First aid considerations for confined space incidents
- Post entry procedures and site handover
- Lunch, or buy from nearby cafes
- Safety footwear
- Sturdy work clothing
- Suitable UV protection
- Warm clothing for cold conditions
- Hold a valid USI
- Weigh less than 120 kg
- Be comfortable in confined spaces. Not be claustrophobic
- Minimum age 15 (under 18 requires parent/guardian consent)
- Be physically fit to climb vertical ladders, bending, kneeling, lifting, wearing harness and associated gear
- Be physically fit to crawl in awkward postures in a confined space
- Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the course
Students deemed competent will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment as required by the Australian Qualifications Framework. Statements are issued by Safe Work Training RTO 21604.To keep skills and knowledge current, Safe Work Training recommends refresher training every 1 to 3 years in accordance with AS 2865 Confined spaces

How long is the course?
One day. 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Are there any training course prerequisites?
Unique Student Identifier (USI): Required for all participants. Create or retrieve your USI at www.usi.gov.au. Language Proficiency: Basic understanding of reading and writing in English. Physical Ability: Ability to climb ladders and carry out physical activities.
What is a USI?
All students enrolling in nationally recognised training in Australia need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI is an exclusive 10-digit number consisting of letters and numbers that will be used to link a student’s account to all their training records.
Are there any educational training course prerequisites?
Yes. Students need to have competed the confined space entry training in the last 3 years
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. At least 15 years old. Parental consent is required if under 18.
How often is refresher training?
Every 3 years This is based on industry standards. The regulations state that “training must be refreshed regularly”. And does not clarify “regularly”

The two-day course is for students who have completed confined space entry training in the past 3 years. Anyone working inside or in relation to confined spaces. Examples: Person entering confined space Person acting as standby Emergency and rescue teams Entering tanks, pits, or vessels Performing maintenance in enclosed spaces Conducting atmospheric testing Working under a permit system

What do I need to bring on the day?
Please bring your USI. You can bring your lunch or there are lunch venues nearby.
What do I wear on the day?
Wear closed shoes. Runners are okay. No thongs. Wear long sleeve shirt, long pants. Be sure to bring a good jacket because you may be outside. All PPE and equipment is provided.
Do I need to bring my own safety equipment?
No. Other than suitable clothing for the weather, we provide all PPE and equipment.
Do I need to be physically fit?
Yes. You must be physically capable of using a harness, climb ladders, awkward postures, crawling, and performing practical tasks inside a confined space.
Do I need Government ID?
No.
