This course is designed to provide students with skills required for working safely at heights. It includes information, practical training and assessment about assessing fall hazards, implementing risk control measures and using harnesses and other safety equipment to perform work tasks at heights. The course uses the Australian Standard AS1891.4 Industrial fall-arrest systems and devices – Selection, use and maintenance which requires workers performing harness-based work to complete accredited height safety training. This course details the requirements of the Victorian OHS Regulations (Prevention of falls) and the National WHS Regulations (Falls)

- Weigh less than 120 kg
- Be comfortable working at heights
- Minimum age 15 (under 18 requires parent/guardian consent)
- Be physically fit to climb vertical ladders, perform manual handling tasks whilst wearing a harness and associated gear
- Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the course
Students deemed competent will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment as required by the Australian Qualifications Framework. Statements are issued by

Are there any training course prerequisites?
Unique Student Identifier (USI): Required for all participants. Create or retrieve your USI at www.usi.gov.au. Language Proficiency: Basic understanding of reading and writing in English. Physical Ability: Ability to climb ladders and carry out physical activities.
What is a USI?
All students enrolling in nationally recognised training in Australia need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI is an exclusive 10-digit number consisting of letters and numbers that will be used to link a student’s account to all their training records.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. At least 15 years old. Parental consent is required if under 18
How often is refresher training?
Every 3 years This is based on industry standards. The regulations state that “training must be refreshed regularly”. And does not clarify “regularly”

Who needs to do this course?
Anyone using a harness for protecting from falls Examples: Wearing a harness when building a scaffold Wearing a harness when in a boom lift EWP Wearing a harness when on a roof Wearing a fall arrest harness when climbing a fixed vertical ladder that has a fall arrestor
Who does NOT need this course?
Examples: Working on a scaffold that has handrails Working on a high platform that has handrails Working on a roof that has handrails Climbing a vertical ladder that has a ladder cage

What do I need to bring on the day?
Please bring your USI. You can bring your lunch or there are lunch venues nearby.
What do I wear on the day?
Wear closed shoes. Runners are okay. No thongs. Wear long sleeve shirt, long pants. Be sure to bring a good jacket because you may be outside. All PPE and equipment is provided.
Do I need to bring my own safety equipment?
No. Other than suitable clothing for the weather, we provide all PPE and equipment.
Do I need to be physically fit?
Yes. You must be physically capable of using a harness, climbing ladders, and performing practical tasks at height.
What is work at height?
For the purpose of the height safety regulations, anyone using a harness to protect from falls is working at height and needs this training
Does this course allow me to operate an EWP such as a scissor lift or boom lift?
No. You will need another course specific for the equipment you operate
Will I be trained on real height safety equipment?
Yes. Practical training includes using harnesses, lanyards, anchor points, and fall arrest systems on an actual roof.
Do I need Government ID?

Support is available. Let us know when you enrol – we’ll work with you to ensure you can complete the course successfully.
What if I fail?
We aim to support every student to succeed. If you require extra help, we may provide one-on-one coaching, additional practice, or self-paced learning options to help you meet the assessment requirements.
