You receive a Certificate of Completion from Safe Work Training (RTO 21604). This supports compliance with section 21(2)(e) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, which requires employers to provide information, instruction, and training to employees. Refresher training is recommended every 3 years.

Is this a nationally accredited course?

No. This is a non-accredited Confined Space Entry Awareness Training course. It is designed to assist duty holders meet their legal duty of care to provide information and training about specific hazards.

Does this course qualify me to enter a confined space?

No. This awareness course is designed for individuals who work near, supervise, or plan work around confined spaces but are not required to physically enter them. To legally enter a confined space and be named on a permit, you must hold the nationally accredited unit of competency, such as RIIWHS202E Enter and Work in Confined Spaces.

What is the difference between this Awareness course and an Accredited course?

Awareness Training focuses on hazard identification, risk assessment, and understanding procedures (permits, standby roles) from outside the space. Accredited Training includes theory plus intensive practical exercises on equipment use (harnesses, gas monitors, rescue equipment) and live entry/exit drills required to be deemed competent to enter.

Is there a test or assessment?

Yes, the course includes a short theory assessment (quiz) to ensure you can apply the information provided, including identify hazards and implement standard controls effectively.

What certification will I receive?

You will receive a Certificate of Completion/Attendance detailing the topics covered, which serves as your record for OHS compliance and professional development.

How long is the certificate valid for?

While the certificate does not have a formal expiry, WHS best practice and many site rules recommend a refresher course every 3 years to ensure knowledge is current with legislation (AS 2865) and site-specific procedures.

What are the key topics covered in the course?

The course covers: the legal definition of a confined space (AS 2865), atmospheric and physical hazards, the WHS risk management process, the Confined Space Permit System, the duties of the Entry Supervisor and Standby Person, and Emergency Procedures.

Will the training be tailored to our workplace?

Yes, if delivered on-site. We encourage a pre-course discussion to incorporate your company's specific confined space examples, work permits, and existing control measures into the training content.

Does the course cover the role of the Standby Person?

Yes, you will gain a strong awareness of the responsibilities of the Standby Person, particularly regarding communication, continuous monitoring, permit compliance, and initiating the emergency response. However, you will not be trained as a competent Standby Person, which is often covered in the accredited course.
