Is this a nationally accredited course?
No. This is a Non-Accredited Height Safety Awareness Training course. It provides essential safety knowledge but does not result in a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment or a formal 'ticket' to work at heights.
Does this course qualify me to work at heights?
No. This awareness course is designed for individuals who need to recognise and manage hazards around heights. To be permitted by most employers and principal contractors to actively work at heights (e.g., using harnesses or fall arrest systems), you must complete the nationally accredited unit RIIWHS204E – Work Safely at Heights.
What certification will I receive?
You will receive a Certificate of Completion/Attendance detailing the topics covered, which serves as your record for OHS compliance and professional development.
How does this training help meet our legal obligations in Victoria?
It assists in meeting the employer's duty under the Victorian OHS Act 2004 and OHS Regulations 2017 to provide adequate information and instruction to workers regarding height-related hazards and safe work practices on site.
What is the main difference between Awareness and Accredited training?
Awareness focuses on hazard identification, legal duties, and risk control principles (e.g., elimination, passive systems like guardrails). Accredited training is highly practical, focusing on the selection, pre-use inspection, donning, adjustment, and anchorage of personal fall arrest equipment (harnesses, lanyards).
Will we get to handle height safety equipment?
Yes. The course includes a demonstration and overview of common equipment (e.g., guardrails, anchors, basic harness types) to enhance your awareness of controls. However, it does not include the intensive, hands-on fitting and practical use of fall arrest systems required for accredited training.
What specific hazards does the course cover?
It covers falls from different levels, fragile roofing, incorrect use of ladders/scaffolding, working near edges, falling objects, and the importance of rescue planning and consultation.
Who should take this course instead of the accredited course?
This course is ideal for new employees, site visitors, supervisors, or labourers whose job is not to actively perform tasks at height, but who need a foundational understanding of the risks to consult, supervise, or work safely near height risks.
How long is the training session?
The Height Safety Awareness course typically runs for 3 hours for a focused, impactful session.
Do we need to supply any equipment?
No. We supply all necessary demonstration equipment and training aids. If delivered on-site, we can incorporate observation and discussion of your existing safety systems (e.g., roof anchors, control measures) to make the session highly relevant.
What should participants wear?
Participants should wear their usual work uniform and closed-toe footwear for safety during the practical demonstration and site hazard review.
Is there an assessment?
There is a short, scenario-based or written knowledge review to confirm key concepts—such as the hierarchy of controls—have been understood. The focus is on learning and awareness, not high-stakes testing.
